I knew a slow down would happen sometime over the summer, and it is now here. Hotter-than-average temperatures, Tour de Fleece, and lots of travel in July all took a toll on how much I knit, but I’m quite pleased that I still managed so much with so little time and desire. I suspect August will be a nearly equal low knitting month, as our temperatures are not expected to break anytime soon. I am hoping to break 2018’s yardage goal of 12,000 yards next month, so we’ll see what happens!

What about you? Did you knit much in July, or do you switch to other crafts during the sticky summer months?

We’re only halfway through the year, and I’m already under 1,000 yards from my goal of 12,000 to knit. It’s been pretty wild, yeah? 2018 is looking to possibly be the highest “production” year I’ve possibly ever had: those fingering weight sweaters are really adding up. Now that summer has descended upon us, I expect my knitting mojo to wane for a couple of months; I very likely will work on only socks and maybe scrap blankets inbetween other crafting projects. But you know what? I’m totally OK with that.

How about you, kitten? Have you been working on much this last month? Do you have some summer crafting plans?

It turns out my yardage was a bit harder-earned in May, but I still had a pretty impressive number given that almost all of my knitting was fingering weight yarn held single this time around! I also knit maybe 1/4 as much this last month; I was more interested in reading and messing around on some of my game apps on my phone. Like many other places in the US, our weather decided to jump from February straight into mid-July, and the summer heat sucks my knitting mojo right out of me. (My lowest yardage months tend to be June through September, when I focus mainly on knitting socks or maybe a single shawl while I work on other things like cross-stitch, sewing, or spinning.) Given we’re only 5 months into 2018 and I’m already to 80.3% of my 12,000 yard goal for the year, this is perfectly fine.  During the month I managed to work on another blanket square, knit one pair of shortie socks plus start another pair, and I knit about 1/3 of a fingering weight Boxy sweater (flat to seam, so I’m purling all the stitches in this project). It was a good month for knits!

I am hoping June will calm down a bit with the weather and throw me at least a few chilly rainy days to inspire me to knit for longer than 20 minutes at a time. But if it doesn’t, I will find another way to occupy my time. It’s fine either way. I will definitely be working on some socks regardless. How about you, kitten? Do you have any hot weather crafting plans? Do you switch up what you’re doing in the summer? (Or are you in the southern hemisphere, and it’s time for your woolen items finally?)

It was another month of intense knitting. I’m not sure I have ever knit so much in a single month. Ever. I have been delighted watching the volume of my yarn bins decrease as the contents are turned into wearable items. Not all of them are staying here with me which is even more delightful. I know I can not keep this up forever, so I plan to enjoy this as long as it lasts.

February always passes so quickly, doesn’t it?

It doesn’t feel like February should be so short. In reality, it is only 2-3 days shorter than any other month…but that loss of 2 days seems significant. I am quite pleased at how much I knit this month, but as I predicted after January, I did see my yardage go down a tad for exactly the reasons stated: I focused on a few larger projects that were more time consuming. I knit a fifth Sockhead Hat (seems to be a Thing this year for me), I worked on a pair of hand knit socks for my husband, and then I started working on the lovely but time-consuming Ginsberg cardigan. I did do some cross stitch early on in the month, but lost my desire to continue after that point.

Onto March, yes? I plan to finish my cardigan, start a new pair of lovely socks in some yarn that arrived in the mail last week, and hopefully I will resurrect a long-languishing WIP that I do really want the FO of.

How about you? What did you work on in February? Did it seem to fly by? Do you have any interesting making plans for March?

So. 2018, eh?

I spent most of January hiding on my couch– under a blanket and a small warm dog–knitting like a maniac on projects that need to go out the door. This was even with a large amount of cross stitch (not one but TWO projects!) and other projects I worked on along the way. (I laced and framed several finished cross stitch pieces, finished sewing a pair of pants, read three books… .) My month off from Lamby has been good for my crafting–I’m afraid I could get used to having all of this time to leisurely work on pretty handmade things–but it can’t last forever.  February will be focusing on larger projects and more cross stitch, so I expect a small dip in yardage knit next month. But we shall see!

How about you, kitten? What did you work on in January? Have you had a good start to the new year?
